Where Design Meets Dignity - Origin Story

Rooted & True didn’t start with a product idea.
It started with paying attention.
Every day we use the same basic items : soap, a toothbrush, and a razor. They’re not glamorous. They don’t get much thought. We grab them off the shelf, use them, toss the packaging, and move on.
But the more I worked in the hygiene space , including building Traveler On A Mission (TOAM) , the more I understood something simple but powerful:
Hygiene is foundational. It affects how we show up in the world. And yet, the products behind those daily routines are often designed for convenience first, intention second.
I wasn’t interested in manufacturing something new just to put my name on it. That never felt aligned. What I saw instead was that there were already better options out there : toothbrushes made from renewable materials, razors designed with more durability in mind, and soap with simpler packaging.
They just weren’t easy to find in one place. And they weren’t always accessible for bulk purchasing or institutional use.
That’s where Rooted & True came from.
Not from invention but from curation.
I wanted to create a space where thoughtfully made hygiene essentials could live together. A place where individuals, businesses, municipalities, and agencies could purchase everyday products that aligned a little better with their values without having to research ten different brands or guess what “eco-friendly” really means.
The work of Rooted & True is in the filtering.
If a product is overloaded with unnecessary packaging, it doesn’t make the cut.
If the sustainability claim feels exaggerated, it doesn’t make the cut.
If it doesn’t function well in real life, it doesn’t make the cut.
The name holds me accountable to that.
Rooted means grounded in materials, in long-term thinking, in staying steady instead of chasing trends.
True means honest about what the product is, what it isn’t, and why it’s here.
Rooted & True exists alongside TOAM, but it stands on its own. TOAM focuses on hygiene access for families and communities.
Rooted & True focuses on the marketplace on making better everyday options easier to choose.
The connection is values. Dignity. Responsibility. Practical impact.
Nothing dramatic.
Nothing performative.
Just intentional.
I also knew from experience that sustainability can’t only live in boutique shops. It has to work in real systems, bulk purchasing, procurement standards, hospitality settings, and government contracts. If we want meaningful change, better products have to be accessible at scale.
So Rooted & True was built with that in mind.
It’s not about perfection. There is no such thing as a perfect product. It’s about doing better where we can. Choosing better where it makes sense. Being transparent along the way.
Hygiene is part of our rhythm. It’s how we prepare for a meeting. How we send our kids to school. How we wind down at night.
Those moments matter.
Rooted & True exists because the basics deserve more thought. Because everyday essentials should feel aligned with who we are, grounded, honest, and practical.
No excess.No inflated claims.
Just thoughtfully curated products, made accessible, and chosen with intention.
